Promotion - Virtual Commissioning: Generic Multi-Fidelity Simulation Framework for High-Performance Transport Systems (f/m/div.)

Bosch Engineering & Manufacturing
Full TimeLohr am Main, Germany

About the role

At Bosch Rexroth, everything revolves around movement and the success of our customers. With our networked drive and control technologies as well as digital solutions, their machines and systems work efficiently, safely and powerfully. We offer components, system solutions and services for mobile and industrial applications as well as for factory automation. In all areas, we value the know-how and commitment of our employees and enable dynamic careers in an international environment. Around 32,000 people in over 80 countries - and one corporate purpose: "We move industries to make our planet a better place." Do you want to make a difference? Then we look forward to receiving your application at Bosch Rexroth AG. As a doctoral candidate you will design and validate a simulation-tool-independent virtual commissioning (VC) framework for testing real-time control stacks and carrier-management middleware for linear-motor transport systems without physical hardware. You will classify and define the required fidelity of physical simulation models, ranging from high-level material flow representations to component-level physics, for diverse commissioning scenarios. Furthermore, you will derive quantitative mathematical metrics and experimental validation methodologies to characterize the behavioral equivalence between real and simulated systems. You will publish your findings in peer-reviewed journals and present them at scientific conferences. The final assignment of the doctoral research topic is determined by the supervising university, which serves as the central point of contact for the doctoral program. Education:   above-average completion of master’s/diploma studies in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with fluent English proficiency Experience and Knowledge: Solid knowledge of virtual commissioning, real-time control and PLC systems, simulation environments (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, FMI/FMU, Visual Components, Plant Simulation), Python, C++, or C#, as well as experience with carrier-centric transport systems, engineering data exchange formats, digital engineering toolchains, and communication protocols (e.g. AutomationML, OPC UA, Asset Administration Shell) Languages: fluent in English and optional German — Published by Bosch. Apply on the employer's own posting.
